2018 MEMBERS’ SUMMER EVENT

This year the summer event will be a bus trip to the Sooke Fine Arts Show.

The cost for the trip is $55 per person.  This includes entry fees to the gardens at Hatley Castle and to the Sooke Fine Arts Show as well as the tip for the driver.

Bus Pick-up begins at 8:00 a.m. at Wembley Mall in front of the Ocenside Arena.  The second pick-up will be at Woodgrove Mall in Nanaimo, behind Walmart near the Avalon Theatre.

First Stop:  Duncan at MacDonald’s for coffee (9:00-9:30)

Second Stop:  Hatley Castle and Gardens (Royal Rhodes) in Colwood.  This will give us some time for a self-directed garden tour and lunch break.  You can purchase food at the cafeteria at Hatley Castle or you can bring a lunch.  There are several spots that have benches in the gardens where you can sit and eat.

The last stop will be The Sooke Fine Arts Show.  This 11 day show and sale draws more than 8,000 art lovers from Canada, the U.S., and abroad to the SEAPARC LEISURE COMPLEX in Sooke.  More than 375 works of original island art are on display in a stunning 16,00 sq.ft., gallery.  Visitors can also enjoy daily artist demonstrations, talks, guided tours, live music, gift shop and bistro.  Thursday is senior’s day and a complimentary tea will be offered to all seniors.

Departure from Sooke will be at 3:00 p.m., sharp and the expected arrival in Nanaimo is 5:30 p.m.  Tour payments are non-refundable so if you cannot attend, you are encouraged to find a replacement.  There is a waiting list for this purpose.

Any further information or if you wish to add your name to the waiting list, please contact Ellen Stebbe at (250)468-2030

TUESDAY AND FRIDAY PAINTERS

Some members of DeCosmos may be interested in joining one of the groups of enthusiastic artists that meet on Tuesday and Friday afternoons.

The artists, who work on their own projects, benefit from the camaraderie and suggestions of other attendees.

The groups meet at the McMillan Arts Centre, 133 McMillan Street in Parksville and participants share the cost of the room rental.  The number of participants is subject to the availability of space.
